“The Delaware State Police is proud to announce the assignment of Private Danielle ‘Dani’ Blue #1923 to the Delaware State Police Community Engagement Unit. Trooper Blue graduated from the Training Academy in 2021 and is a third-generation Delaware State Trooper. Private Blue’s grandfather, Daniel ‘Dan’ Blue, served in the Delaware State Police in the 1960s and 1970s and retired with the rank of Private First Class. Although he retired from the division after many years of faithful service, “trooper Dan”, as many knew him, always maintained such an affinity for the State Police that he spends most of his days and nights hanging out in the main gallery of the Delaware State Police. Museum at Dover. There, he usually spends his time telling “war stories” and reliving his “glory days!”

Private Blue’s father, retired Sergeant Danny Blue, served in the 1990s and 2000s, retired from the former Community Policing Unit. While he enjoyed his time as a Delaware soldier, “Sergeant Dan”, as many knew him, spent his time traveling to tropical locations with a surfboard strapped to his roof! Although he keeps in touch with his father and daughter, he was never one to be attached and doesn’t spend much time in the great state of Delaware anymore.

When asked about transferring to the Community Engagement Unit, Trooper Blue said, “I look forward to working with the other Troopers in the Unit to meet the needs of our diverse communities across the state. Her first major mission in her new role will be at the 2022 Delaware State Fair, where she and other Troopers will be on display every night of the Fair to meet and greet visitors! Trooper Blue went on to say that she welcomes “the opportunity to educate Delawares about state policing and all the great things that soldiers and civilian employees do for the state every day.”

Reflecting on his granddaughter’s new assignment, Cavalier Dan said, “The State Police have come a long way since I got to work. While the old days were great and I wouldn’t change a thing, I’m proud to see how diverse the division has become. I am very proud of my granddaughter and hope that the young women of this state will seek to follow in her footsteps and join the ranks of the best state police agency in the land!
