News from the NMED DOE Monitoring Office:
…The public is invited to see demonstrations, to ask questions
The New Mexico Department of Environment (NMED) Department of Energy (DOE) Oversight Office invites members of the public to an open house and community engagement meeting, 3-7 p.m. p.m. on Friday, September 23, at the Los Alamos Surveillance Section office at 1183 Diamond Dr., Suite B.
All interested members of the public are encouraged to attend and learn more about what the NMED DOE Monitoring Office is doing for the community of Los Alamos and surrounding areas.
The DOE Monitoring Office at NMED closely monitors the environment in and around US DOE facilities in New Mexico to confirm US DOE environmental findings and inform surrounding communities.
“Conducting independent monitoring of environmental data around Los Alamos provides reassurance to nearby communities,” said Chris Catechis, acting director of the Resource Protection Division. “I encourage the public to join us at this event to learn more about the important work we do at the Los Alamos Surveillance Section office.”
The Open House format will consist of multiple demonstration and information areas throughout the Los Alamos Control Section office. Personnel will be stationed in these areas to present relevant topics and answer questions related to NMED surveillance activities at Los Alamos National Laboratories under the jurisdiction of the DOE Surveillance Office.
To submit questions in advance and/or to request interpretation services or other assistance, contact NMED DOE Oversight Office Chief Beau Masse at 505.331.3665 or [email protected].
Participants can also ask questions during the meeting and do not need to be submitted first.
