Teen Court of Sarasota and Fredd Atkins Community Engagement Services recently received grants totaling $98,000 from the Custom Estate Settlement benefiting Youth Inc. to support at-risk youth in Sarasota County.
PEL partners with organizations that support young people in need. Teen Court of Sarasota, which provides programs and services for youth worthy of a second chance to learn from their mistakes, received $50,000. This is PEL’s fourth donation to Teen Court for a total of $175,000.
“PEL’s mission and passion for supporting local youth has resulted in hundreds of Teen Court attendees receiving free mental health counselling, prevention and intervention services,” said Heather Todd, Director General of Teen Court. “In addition to the many volunteer scholarships that have been given in their name. We are beyond grateful for their kindness and generosity.”
The donation will allow Teen Court to serve clients and their families without worrying about cost. Teen Court served 690 youth in 2021, with a 93% success rate in the substance abuse program; 80% have also improved their grades since participating in Teen Court programs.
Teen Court of Sarasota is an alternative to juvenile court. Young people who pass through Teen Court participate in a peer-led program under the supervision of a volunteer adult judge. Student volunteers who participate in the Teen Court program receive legal training as well as community service hours for their time.
Complementing the Teen Court program, the organization also offers counseling, substance abuse prevention, anti-bullying, and anger management classes for youth with additional needs. For more information, visit sarasotateencourt.org.
Booker Athlete Support
Fredd Atkins Community Engagement Services received $48,000 to be used for tutoring Booker High School athletes, a vital service to keep these teens involved in athletics and school. This is PEL’s fifth donation to Booker High for a total of $103,000. Previous donations have been to the Booker High School Foundation, which provides tuition assistance for college graduates.
Youth Personalized Estate Settlement conducts estate sales and accepts donations or consignments with a minimum value of $1,000. Donations and purchases at PEL allow the nonprofit arm of its operations to help various groups, including Boys and Girls Clubs of Sarasota, Safe Children Coalition, Coastal Behavior Healthcare, Sarasota YMCA Youth Shelter, Faces of Accomplishment and New College Foundation.
PEL is run by more than 50 volunteers, many with 20 years of real estate experience, and has donated more than $474,200 to Sarasota County organizations. For more information, call 941-993-8757 or visit personalizedestateliquidation.com.
