CITGO Petroleum Corp.
Hundreds of residents of southwest Louisiana recycled their unwanted electronics during the annual CITGO Electronics Recycling Day in the parking lot of the West-Cal Arena in Sulfur. This event offers residents the opportunity to recycle their unwanted electronic devices, completely free of charge. Items collected included televisions, cell phones, computers, batteries, household items containing mercury and other consumer electronics.
This year, 400 vehicles drove through the event with collections totaling six extra-large boxes, which equates to about three semi-trailers, 485 bulbs and several mercury-containing items, according to CITGO.
“Following the events of last year, we anticipated a strong turnout due to the increased need to recycle old or damaged electronics in an efficient and environmentally safe manner,” said Jerry Dunn, vice president and general manager of the CITGO Lake Charles manufacturing complex. “We are pleased to be a reliable partner for our community and to continue to provide this first e-waste recycling opportunity since the hurricanes of 2020.”
Each year, CITGO E-Recycle Day alternates between the towns of Lake Charles and Sulfur to provide residents of each region with a convenient place to recycle their electronic waste. Since 2009, CITGO E-Recycle Day has helped keep over 462 tonnes of electronic waste out of landfills and is one of many initiatives sponsored by CITGO as part of its commitment to reduce waste.
