Pulaski County Announces New Director of Community Development, Planning and Zoning – PCPatriot


Pulaski County is pleased to announce that Ashlyn Shrewsbury, CEcD, has been hired to lead the planning and zoning department and lead the county’s community development efforts, effective June 1, 2022.
The Department will add a community development and project management component to its
focus on supporting the goals of the Pulaski County Comprehensive Plan, advancing the 40 by 30 initiative and
provide the capacity needed to carry out a variety of post-COVID projects and programs

The Director of Community Development and Planning and Zoning will oversee the community
development projects and leading the planning and zoning functions of the department. M/s.
Shrewsbury will be assisted by Planning and Zoning Coordinator Markie Saunders and John
Crockett, Community Development Project Manager and GIS Coordinator.

said Ashlyn Shrewsbury, director of community development and planning and zoning. “I really
believe that my professional experience over the past eight years will be a great asset to the county,
and I look forward to getting to work to help make the 40-by-30 initiative a reality.
Ashlyn Shrewsbury is a Pulaski County native and a Pulaski County High School graduate.
She graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) and a BA in
Political science. She obtained her Certified Diploma in Economic Development (CEcD) from
the International Council for Economic Development (ICED) in 2018 and has been a professional
economic and community development practitioner for Gaston County, NC, Montgomery
County, VA, and more recently for the city of Tampa, FL. She has more than 8 years of economic experience and
community development experience, a heart for public service and a desire to serve Pulaski
County, VA and its citizens. Ms Shrewsbury will replace Elaine Holeton who left Pulaski
County in January of this year to serve as Deputy City Manager for the Town of Wytheville.
