Meet San Gabriel’s New Director of Community Development

After extensive recruitment, San Gabriel officials announced the appointment of Aldo Cervantes as director of community development.

Cervantes, 40, comes to San Gabriel from the city of San Marino, where he was previously director of community development. With extensive experience in economic development, historical preservation and planning, Cervantes oversaw the preservation of the architectural history of San Marino with the development of the community’s first historic preservation ordinance and declaration / survey contextual, the first mixed-use project and an economic development program. Previously, Cervantes worked in the city of Montebello and the city of Cerritos.

Mark Lazzaretto, City Manager of San Gabriel, said:

We are privileged to welcome Aldo to the community of San Gabriel. With over 20 years of experience, Aldo’s experience will be an asset to our community and our team.

In his new role, Cervantes will report directly to the City Manager, overseeing the economic development, neighborhood improvement services, planning, construction and city security divisions. The San Gabriel Community Development Department is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe and vibrant physical environment for residents, businesses and visitors to San Gabriel.

“I am honored to join the city of San Gabriel,” said Aldo Cervantes. “I have made economic development and historic preservation a key objective throughout my professional career and I hope to bring this experience to the City.

Cervantes received her Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from Cal Poly Pomona in 2003 and her Masters of Public Administration from Cal State Fullerton in 2009.
