Maine Horticulture Apprentice Training Program Seeks Host Companies and Organizations – UMaine News

Businesses and organizations interested in hosting a Maine horticultural apprentice are encouraged to apply for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension website.

The Maine Horticultural Apprentice Training is a comprehensive three-part program designed to provide learners with basic horticultural training suitable for skilled entry-level positions in the horticultural industry. Developed with input from industry leaders, the program prepares learners with the practical knowledge and skills that employers want.

There are several benefits to hosting a Maine Horticultural Apprentice Intern, including the ability to hire an apprentice who has received training in a number of horticulture-related subjects; work with someone who has shown interest and dedication to entering the field of horticulture; and support the next generation of horticultural workforce in Maine.

Suitable learning hosts include landscaping companies, nurseries (public facing or wholesale), farms, non-profit organizations (botanical, community and school gardens, etc.) and gardening positions . Apprenticeship opportunities can be paid or volunteer positions as long as they comply with fair labor standards.

More information and the list of interests can be found on the program Web page. For questions, call 207.581.3188 or email [email protected].
