THE. WE NEED RAIN. THIS IS A 5+5 DAY FORECAST. >> THIS WEEK, WE HIGHLIGHT THE EXCELLENT WORK DONE BY Centraide AND THEIR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS. TODAY WE FOCUS ON THE LATINO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY. JOIN ME NOW DR. RAUL IS PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE LCDA. HELLO TO YOU SIR. >> HELLO HOW ARE YOU? WELL DAIRY PLEX. GLAD TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT WHAT YOU DO. FOR ANYONE NOT FAMILIAR WITH LATIN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, TELL US MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO? >> WE STARTED 31 YEARS AGO TO MOVE TO A NEED FOR SERVICES THAT DID NOT EXIST. TODAY AS YOU ALL KNOW, YOU HAVE SEEN THE SENSES, 23% OF THE POPULATION IS LATINO. IT’S INSANE TO THINK IT’S AS BIG AS WE ARE HERE IN OKLAHOMA. >> CERTAINLY A GROWING DEMOGRAPHY. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE PROGRAMS? GIVE US AN OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMS YOU OFFER TO THE COMMUNITY. >> SO VERY UNIQUE. WE HAVE 26 PROGRAMS IN OUR BUILDING. WE ARE PROUD TO BE THE AGENCY WHERE YOU ENTER AND HAVE A TOTAL WRAP. UNFORTUNATELY, WE STRUGGLE WITH WHAT MANY PEOPLE THINK ARE THE BAD THINGS HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY. WE HAVE ALL THE PROGRAMS THAT ARE IN SOCIAL NEED. UNTIL HEALTH IS OUR MAJOR PROGRAM. ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE — MENTAL HEALTH IS OUR MAJOR PROGRAM. ALL THESE PROGRAMS ARE SERVICED BY STAFF. 54 OF THEM ARE COUNSELORS AND THERAPISTS WHO WORK ON ANY KIND OF MENTAL HEALTH. REAL ABUSE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, BUT WE ALSO HAVE SERVICE PROGRAMS AS WE HAVE A PEDIATRIC CLINIC. WE HAVE TWO DAYCARE. WE ALSO HAVE A CENTER FOR SENIORS. WE STRIVE TO WORK WITH THE ADVERSITIES EVERYONE HAS, INCLUDING THE OKLAHOMA CITY PUBLIX HOLES WITH THEIR CHILDREN. — PUBLIC SCHOOLS WITH THEIR CHILDREN. AN ORGANIZATION WITH PROGRAMS NOBODY ELSE NEEDS TO TALK ABOUT. WHICH IS VERY SAD. PLEX CAN YOU SPEAK ABOUT THE IMPACT AND IMPORTANCE OF HAVING THE SERVICES AVAILABLE IN CAN UNITY? IF IT WAS NOT FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION, HOW WOULD THINGS BE HERE? PLEX IT’S SCARY TO SAY WE ARE THE ONLY ORGANIZATION THAT SERVES NOT JUST THE LATINO COMMUNITY, WHICH THEY TRUST. EVERYTHING IS A MATTER OF TRUST. THEY ARE NOT ONLY EXPECTING US TO PROVIDE ANY KIND OF SERVICE THEY NEED, BUT THEY ALSO WANT US TO BE THEIR ADVOCATE. THEY WANT US TO BE THEIR VOICE. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT IN THE ORGANIZATION TO LEAD BECAUSE THEY GROW, WE HAVE TO GROW WITH THE COMMUNITY. UNFORTUNATELY, OUR PARTNERS AND OUR LEADERS IN — IN THE POLITICAL COMMUNITY DO NOT REALIZE THE RAPID GROWTH OF THIS COMMUNITY. IF WE DO NOT CARE FOR THEM NOW, IT WILL HINDER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE FUTURE. >> DO YOU HAVE ANY ANECDOTES OR EXAMPLES OF THE IMPACT THIS HAS HAD ON PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY? HAVE YOU INTERACTED WITH FAMILIES AND PEOPLE WHO ENJOY WHAT YOU DO? >> I WILL GIVE YOU A STORY. A MAN WHO IS NOT OCCASIONAL FOR ME TO SAY HIS NAME. WILLIAM MORALES. HE WAS CARE IN THE COMMUNITY BACK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. VERY GOOD. HE WAS BROUGHT TO SANTA FE SOUTH CHARTER HIGH AND WE WRAPPED AROUND HIM ON A GROUP CALLED LATINO LEADERS. THIS GENTLEMAN IS AN AROMATIC ENGINEER TODAY AND IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS TOUR AND GIVING HIM EXAMPLES OF WHAT LEADERS LOOK LIKE AND PUTTING THEM IN FRONT OF PEOPLE TO SUCCEED. THIS IS ONE OF OUR LARGEST PROGRAMS. WE HAVE THREE MEMBERS ON OUR BOARD WHO WENT THROUGH THE LATINO LEADERSHIP CLUB. I CAN SIT DOWN AND TELL YOU STORY AFTER STORY ABOUT THE IMPACT OF COVID AND THE IMPACT ON — THEY CAME HERE WITH NOTHING AND TODAY, NOT ONLY ARE THEY PROSPEROUS, BUT THEY CAN ALSO GIVE BACK. THAT’S WHAT WE WANT THEM TO DO. >> A GREAT AMOUNT OF SUCCESS STORIES HERE. GREAT TO SEE. YOU SAID BEING A PARTNERSHIP WITH Centraide WHAT DOES IT MEAN? >> WE EXIST THANKS TO Centraide. BACK IN THE 90S, A GROUP OF LEADERS DECIDED WE NEEDED TO ENTER AN AGENCY TO SERVE THE LATIN COMMUNITY. WE REQUEST $40,000 FROM Centraide. TODAY, WE ARE 4 BILLION DOLLARS IN HIS NATION SUPPORTED BY Centraide. WHICH IS DONATED BY PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT Centraide. >> Centraide’S IMPACT IS HUGE HERE. HOW CAN PEOPLE GET INVOLVED IF THEY WANT TO FURTHER YOUR MISSION? AND HELP PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY. WHAT CAN PEOPLE WHO ARE WATCHING THIS DO RIGHT NOW? PLEX NOW — >> NOW WE ARE AT 40523 60701 IS OUR LINE. WE HAVE A RECEPTION AS THEY ARE. WE HAVE PEOPLE COMING TO VOLUNTEER. WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO WILL LIKE TO BE PART OF A SPECIFIC PROGRAM BECAUSE IT AFFECTS THEIR LIVES. SOME OF THE COMPANIES HAVE DECIDED THAT THEY WANT SOME OF THEIR STAFF TO COME AND DO VOLUNTEERING AND COMMUNITY SERVICE. WE ARE HERE FOR THAT TOO. WE HAVE SCHOOL PROGRAMS. WE COORDINATE WITH THE YMCA. THE FOOD BANK. SO IF THEY THINK THERE IS THE, AND WE DON’T SERVE JUST LATINOS, WE SERVE ANYONE WHO COMES THROUGH OUR DOORS. A NEED TO CONTACT US AGAIN AT 405-236-0701 AND WE GET THEM INVOLVED. >> THANKS WE APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. THANK YOU FOR TELLING US ABOUT YOUR INCREDIBLE ORGANIZATION. >> HAVE A GOOD DAY
