The Township of Derry Police Department is currently accepting applications for part-time Community Service Officer positions.
Must be a U.S. citizen and be 18 years of age or older.
Must have a valid driver’s license. [Out of state applicants must obtain a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.]
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be well organized with strong verbal skills, good penmanship, computer literacy, the ability to make quick decisions and be able to think independently as well as follow orders.
Must comply with Township of Derry Police Department General Order 26.1 regarding appearance and grooming at time of hire. [Available for review upon accessing the online employment application.]
When hired, community service workers must complete a probationary training period of at least one year.
Community service officers perform quasi-policing duties including directing traffic, animal control, park patrolling, local ordinance enforcement, parking enforcement, motorist assistance, and handling of traffic. arrests.
Successful candidates must be available to work various scheduled shifts throughout the day and night, including weekends and holidays. Most shifts will be 8 hours without night shifts. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours in a given period.

The starting salary for this position is $ 14.87 per hour and includes paid vacation. This is a challenging and rewarding position to work with the police service in a civilian capacity and is a great opportunity for students and others looking to gain experience in law enforcement.
