Job Opportunity

The Derry Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for part-time Community Service Officer positions.


Must be a US citizen and 18 years of age or older.

Must have a valid driver’s license. [Out of state applicants must obtain a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.]

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must be well organized with strong verbal skills, good calligraphy, computer literacy, have the ability to make quick decisions and be able to think independently as well as follow orders.

Must comply with Derry Township Police Department General Order 26.1 regarding appearance and grooming upon hire. [Available for review upon accessing the online employment application.]

When hired, community service officers must undergo a probationary training period of at least one year.


Community Services Officers perform quasi-police duties to include directing traffic, animal control, park patrol, local ordinance enforcement, parking enforcement, motorist assistance, and dealing with arrests.

Successful candidates must be available to work various shifts throughout the day and night, including weekends and holidays. Most shifts will be 8 hours with no night shifts. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours in a given period.

The starting salary for this position is $14.87 per hour and includes paid vacation. This is a challenging and rewarding position to work with the police service in a civilian capacity and is an excellent opportunity for students and others looking to gain experience in law enforcement. law.

Finalists will undergo an extensive background investigation to include criminal history, driving record check and medical tests.
