Governor Emmanuel charges elites with community development

Emmanuel said this during the year-end meeting and the awarding of chiefdom titles to deserving sons of the Ibiono Ibom local government area of Akwa Ibom on Tuesday.

The governor, who was represented by the works commissioner and firefighters, Teacher. Eno Ibanga, congratulated the supreme sovereign for having recognized those who had contributed to the development of their communities.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the Supreme Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, His Royal Majesty Edidem Ime Udousoro Inyang conferred chiefdom titles on Prof. Essien Antia-Obong, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpa, Prof. Halo Eton, and Mr. Churchill Udoh and other deserving sons of Ibiono Ibom.

He said that when God is helping people rise in life to greater heights, they should look back and let the impact of God’s blessings on them be felt in their villages.

“I bring you warm greetings from His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel, who asked me to represent him at this event as he deals with other matters that require his attention.

“I also bring the message of peace and unity to Ibiono Ibom because only God inducts people into leadership positions, so we must keep the peace while God is doing His work.

“I congratulate those who have received leadership titles, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to human capacity development and other community services in their various communities.

“It’s a two-way street. You make your community feel your impact and it rewards you ” Ibanga said.

The Commissioner instructed recipients of various chiefdom titles to view this honor as a call for more impactful service for their communities.

Earlier, the traditional chief said that for a few years, the council of traditional chiefs of Ibiono Ibom had not honored anyone with the title of chiefdom due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ensure that this honor is not everyone’s business.

He said the personal profiles and community service records of the selected awardees reflected that they deserved this honor.

“Honoring due honor is a truism that cannot be ignored and as such, the advisory board said a few of our sons will be honored this year.

“Their respective quotes will show and convince you that they are people worthy and worthy of honor.

“Their achievements, their importance and their closeness to the Ibiono Ibom community are the reason for today’s meeting”, said the traditional chief.

Speaking on behalf of the laureates, Mr. Churchill Udo, Chairman and CEO of Westgate Group of Companies, who received the traditional title of “Isantim Ibiono” expressed his gratitude to the state government for the peace it enjoys in the state.

Churchill thanked the Supreme Ruler for bestowing them the leadership titles, saying the move would inspire them to do more.
