Fulfilling community service, says Indian-American doctor honored for Covid relief work in India, US

An Indian-American doctor has received a humanitarian award from Monmouth Medical Center-Southern Campus. He has been recognized for his exemplary work in public health and social services, particularly for Covid-related relief and humanitarian work in India and the United States.

By India Today Web Desk: Monmouth Medical Center-Southern Campus has honored a well-known Indian-American physician for his exemplary work related to Covid-19-related relief and humanitarian work in India and the United States. A native of Jharkhand’s Ranchi, Dr Avinash Gupta has been awarded for his work in public health and social care, news agency PTI reported. He received the Monmouth Medical Center-Southern Campus Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Avinash Gupta is chief of cardiology and president-elect of the medical staff at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus (MMCSC) in New Jersey.

After receiving the award, Dr. Gupta said, “Being involved in community groups and helping others has always been my passion. Community service is very rewarding and fulfilling. It enriched me as a person. (sic)

WORKING DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Dr. Gupta and his wife have done humanitarian and relief work related to Covid-19 in India and the United States and also assisted students with their internships and workshops.

He practically looked after many Indians in the United States who had no medical insurance and were unable to visit a medical facility during the Covid-19 lockdown.

When the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic hit India, Dr Avinash Gupta offered a teleconsultation service to help the poor and needy. As the United States reeled from the coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Gupta led a team of 50 doctors and medical professionals to vaccinate 3,500 American Indians in Ocean Country, New Jersey. .

Dr. Gupta, along with his wife, Dr. Geeta Gupta, have assisted Indian students arriving in the United States for trainings, workshops, lectures, internships.

In a bid to ease the pressure on overburdened hospitals, Dr. Avinash Gupta also treated 1,000 patients and also raised over $250,000 for medical aid in India. It has also provided assistance to the Patna-based NGO AASTHA to construct a 10-bed Covid care center to combat the deadly pandemic.

Avinash Gupta has cared for over 1,000 patients, helping to ease pressure on overburdened hospitals. He also raised over $250,000 for medical relief in India and helped AASTHA, a Patna-based NGO, set up a 10-bed Covid care centre.
