MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (April 27, 2022) – Mohave County is expected to receive approximately $470,373 (including administration) in fiscal year 2022 from Federal Community Development Block Grant funds from the department’s Regional Account (RA) of Arizona housing. The county also intends to request $500,000 (including administration) for FY2022 and FY2023 CDBG funds from the State Special Projects Account (SSP). CDBG funds are to be used to benefit low-income people and areas, alleviate slums and blight or meet urgent needs.

Based on citizen feedback as well as local and state planning goals, three (3) projects were selected to forward to the State of Arizona with a request for funding. A public hearing will be held at the regular meeting of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors on May 16, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. in the Auditorium of the Mohave County Administration Building, 700 West Beale Street, Kingman to discuss projects. It is expected that the Mohave County Board of Supervisors will select the final drafts at this hearing and pass the applicable resolutions.

Potential CDBG projects are named and described as follows:

CDBG REGIONAL ACCOUNT (Approximately, excluding Administration):

Project 1: (Mohave County) Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation (OOHR): $250,705.86- To provide OOHR repair grants of up to $30,000 each for approximately nine (9) low-income households that reside in Mohave County’s supervisory districts with health/safety, ADA, and weatherization repairs. Priority populations will include the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, very low-income populations (30% AMI), and very low-income families with children under 18.

Project 2: Hatch Valley Domestic Water Improvement District (DWID): $65,000 – Hatch Valley DWID is seeking funding for water system infrastructure improvements to better serve its community of Truxton, Arizona. by purchasing and installing a backup commercial propane generator with a 1000 gal. propane tank to supplement the supply providing vital water services during frequent power outages. The Hatch Valley DWID commits an additional $3,000 for upgrades. The improvements will provide continuous water service to approximately 57 households. A special survey has been conducted to confirm that Truxton meets the low/middle income statistics at 64%.

Project 3: Chloride Domestic Water Improvement District (DWID): $70,000 – Chloride DWID is seeking funding for water system infrastructure improvements to better serve its community by purchasing and installing a commercial generator to supplement electricity during frequent power outages. The town of Chloride, Az. is currently on the HUD Low/Mod Income Summary Data at 88.89%. The Chloride DWID incurs an additional $7,000 for upgrades. The upgrades will provide continuous water service to approximately 175 residents.

CDBG STATE SPECIAL PROJECT REQUEST:

$500,000 (less $90,000 administration); (SSP) Rehabilitation of Moderate Owner Occupied Housing – For FY2022.

To provide ongoing OOHR for approximately twelve (12) low-income residents who reside in Mohave County’s supervisory districts. Priority populations will include: the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, very low income populations (30% AMI) and very low income families with children under 18. , electrical, plumbing, ADA accessibility and weatherization.

$500,000. (Less $90,000 administration); (SSP) Rehabilitation of Moderate Owner Occupied Housing – For FY2023.

To provide ongoing OOHR for approximately twelve (12) low-income residents who reside in Mohave County’s supervisory districts. Priority populations will include: the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, very low income populations (30% AMI) and very low income families with children under 18. , electrical, plumbing, ADA accessibility and weatherization.
