Your first step towards a career in construction. The Sault Community Career Center and Sault Ste. Marie Construction Association is delighted to announce another year of Build This City: a free construction fundamentals training program for job seekers and employers.

Our next training session begins on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Applications from participants are accepted until Monday, April 4, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. Applications received after April 4 will be considered for the next available training session. Apply now! Space is limited.

Build This City is a SkillsAdvance Ontario workforce development project designed for Sault Ste. Married. It provides job seekers with FREE short-term training in the basics of construction and helps them find work and progress in the local construction industry. It gives local employers access to skilled, job-ready workers to meet their labor needs and supports to train staff for advancement opportunities.

FREE assistance for job seekers:
Eight weeks of free essential and technical skills training, delivered by experienced professionals that culminate in industry-recognized certificates or credentials, combined with job shadowing with a variety of local employers around the world. ‘industry
Two-week paid internship with local industry employers
One-on-one support that helps you transition from training to local employment and career opportunities
Financial support to cover items such as work clothes, equipment, transportation, food

Eligible job seekers will be:
Unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week on average
18 or older
Resident of Ontario and legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, asylum seeker)
Not participating in or returning to full-time training or studies

FREE support for employers:
Financial support to offset additional costs of supervising or training staff mentors to provide supervision for job-seeking participants
One-on-one support to ensure successful participant placements
Workers with the right skills you need to fill vacancies
Contribute to reducing employee turnover
Advancement opportunities for current staff through specialized training that meets your needs
