LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – As part of its mission to help the community, the University of Bellarmine has launched a Community Engagement Center.

The university is also launching the center to help students “connect to meaningful work and experiential learning opportunities,” according to a press release.

Bellarmine officials said the idea for the center came from the university’s strategic plan, which prioritizes student connections in the Louisville area.

“Our Community Engagement Center will build on Bellarmine’s long-standing commitment to serve” “for and with” those who need it most in the community, “said Dr. Susan M. Donovan, President of Bellarmine.

The center will offer three exclusive programs, including tutoring local children from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and sharing their college experiences with middle and high school students.

In another program, students will be employed part-time in non-profit organizations, schools and government agencies. These students will be paid as part of a work-study program.

The center will also support days of service, paid advances for employees to volunteer and alternative spring break, according to a press release.
